John F Kempley Snr established a potato merchants in the heart of Yorkshire
John F Kempley Jnr took over the business and moved it to Troy Road, Horsforth, Leeds
Potatapeal was born! Even back then, we invested heavily in the latest technology and equipment, and were known for quality and excellence
John F Kempley retired and left the business to his son (current CEO & Owner) David Kempley
We ventured into Salads and other prepared foods with our other brands, Springfield Salads and Cranborne Foods
We started to manufacture Salads and other prepared foods with our other brands, Springfield Salads and Cranborne Foods
We moved to bigger, new premises and rebranded the entire business. Troy Foods was born, named after the road we were based on in Horsforth in Leeds
We acquired a mayonnaise business and commence the manufacturing of mayonnaise
We bought land in south Leeds and built our Salads Manufacturing facility, housing our mayonnaise manufacturing plant and our salads processing facility
We moved our Warehousing & HR Support functions to a new distribution centre in south Leeds
UK’s leading processing manufacturer and the leading seller of branded salads
Investment into state-of-the-art retail bottling plant
James Kempley takes over as Managing Director
We strategically launched flavoured sauces

Our DNA

Health & Safety

The company strategy was to build up systems at each level of the process using the model plan / do / check / Act. We needed a robust Management model with the participation of the leadership team and shopfloor encompassing all the values of Health and safety to  keep our colleagues safe.

After several years of tuning our systems we were ready to strive to be the best in excellence in Health and safety standards, the sword of honour being the pinnacle of our achievements.

This was our roadmap to get there.

9 Gold ROSPA awards, 

6 BSC International awards, 

4 BSC  5-star audit Accreditations 

and ultimately 5 Swords Of Honour.

We now hold the ISO45001 European technical standard accreditation which has superseded the British safety council 5-star audit and is recognized industry wide as one of the leading standards in H&S.
