The Technical Team are a small, hardworking and friendly team. They are have an eye for detail, love to get involved in all aspects of the factory and strive for the best food quality and hygiene standards throughout the business. If you are equally as attentive, tenacious and have a high standard for details, then this is the team for you. Neil Smith

Site Technical Manager (Veg Operations)

Neil is a seasoned Technical expert. He joined the business in 2015 from a large national food manufacturer. Having previously worked in the meat industry, he was a seasoned veteran that fancied a change of pace in a more fast-paced industry.

He has a wealth of industry knowledge, experience and loves to talk about it too! Pontefract born and bred, Neil is known for his feistiness, his knowledge of our business and products, and his energy to drive projects through to completion. He has supported the businesses growth over the years and our venture into retail veg, by putting in the processes and procedures to support this.

He can often be found on a weekend breeding his birds in his menagerie. One thing if for sure, if you like the feathered kind of bird, then he's your man.

Kerry Hopwood

Technical Services Manager (Salad Operations)

Kerry is passionate about GMP, Food and Food safety. She has a knack for reading people and knowing how to get the best results from them. She joined the business in 2017 and has been recognised for her 'no-nonsense' approach and direct vocabulary. She has brought the Technical Department on leaps and bounds since her arrival alongside her Manager. She has implemented 'no nonsense' audits across the factory, and is passionate about getting things right.

Kerry is obsessively organised, tidy and methodical and has brought a fresh new approach to the Technical team at the Salads operations, which has been long overdue!

She has a passion for animals and lives at home with her partner and her three gorgeous doggies, two cats and 5 chickens

Tiago Ferreira

Technical Services Manager (Veg Operations)

Tiago is a new recruit, joining the Trojan workforce in 2017. He is very organised, methodical and his customer-centric attitude made him the obvious choice for this role at the Veg Operations. He has developed a broad knowledge of our products and shelf life and is at the forefront of food safety and microbiology.

He has been working in the UK since 2005, in the Meat Industry (various), ambient RTE foods (Fox’s Biscuits) and Veg/produce (G’s Fresh). He has had both QA Manager and Technical Manager roles recently and is a qualified BRC Auditor. Tiago has a done Public Health and Veterinary Science degree so is very well educated. He is extremely team focused and likes to develop and learn from the people he works with.

He was born in Portugal, but did work in Spain as a Technical Manager in Produce and RTE produce. He lives outside of Leeds with his Wife and Son, who he adores and like to play Football.
